Intertek can help prepare you for success with access to Gulf Coordinating Council (GCC) markets with Gulf Conformity Marking

Gulf Mark (G Mark)

What is the G Mark?

The Gulf Mark (G Mark) is a conformity marking system used across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states—Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain. It is managed by the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO).

The G Mark demonstrates that a product meets the essential health, safety, and environmental requirements set out in Gulf Technical Regulations and Standards. Similar to the CE Mark in Europe, it allows products to be freely marketed and sold across the GCC region without additional testing in each country.

Product Access into GCC Markets

The G Mark is a mandatory requirement for low voltage electrical products and children’s toys being exported to the Gulf Coordinating Council (GCC) countries under the GSO, as defined within the Low Voltage Technical Regulation, BD142004-01.

The scope of List (2) products under the G Mark scheme is in the process of being extended to cover ALL household electrical products. Please contact us for further information or to discuss how this might affect your products.

Product Categories requiring the G Mark

Here's the breakdown of product categories that currently require the G Mark under Gulf Technical Regulations issued by the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO):

  1. Toys
    • All toys intended for use by children under 14 years old.
    • Regulated under the Gulf Toys Technical Regulation (BD-131704-01).
    • Covers mechanical, physical, flammability, chemical, and electrical safety requirements.
    • Similar in scope to the EU Toy Safety Directive.
  2. Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and Appliances (LVE)

Within this category, there's a distinction:

      • High-Risk Products (List 2): Require third-party certification and a Gulf Type Examination Certificate (issued by a Notified Body like Intertek).
      • Lower-Risk Products (List 1): May rely on a Supplier Declaration of Conformity (DoC).
