China – Updated Standard GB/T 11951-2018 Issued

The General Administration of Quality supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Standardization Administration Committee of the People’s Republic of China issued an updated standard GB/T 11951-2018 <Natural fibres – Terminology>, which will come into effect on Sep 1st, 2018.
This new standard supersedes GB/T 11951-1989 and includes the following significant changes to the existing standard.
- The classification of animal fibres type modified
Added “fibres secreted by some molluscs” in the animal fibres type.

- The terms and definition of zhong wei wool (中卫山羊毛) deleted
- The explanation of the horse (马毛), HEMP (大麻) and JUTE (黄麻) added
- Horse (马毛): Horse-hair fibre coming from the mane or the tail of the horse; horse-coat fibre coming from the coat of the horse
- HEMP (大麻): called also 汉麻 and 火麻
- JUTE (黄麻): called also jute and allied fibres (黄麻及同类纤维)
